The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) has warned that a Venezuelan crime gang is present in “every major city” in the state, and “all over the place” in the wider US.TBI director David Rausch told a budget hearing on November 12 that the gang, called Tren de Aragua, was first uncovered “a couple of years ago” during a human trafficking operation.Rausch said that at the time, the gang was trafficking women whom they had abducted from Venezuela.“We were able to capture a number of them and many of them fled. They were out of Tennessee […] Now, they are back. They are back in all of our major cities,” he said.Rausch said the gang was now also involved in organized retail theft and in the drug trade.“Recently, there was a video that they shot where they shot an individual, a cartel member, 31 times, broad daylight, on video, and posted it to social media. And that’s the type of organization they are,” Rausch said.Asked if the gang was in other states, Rausch said they were “all over the place”.Tren de Aragua was sanctioned as a transnational criminal organization by the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control back in July.
