A fire erupted in grassland on the grounds of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi, Kenya, on Friday, February 21, though officials said flights at the airport remained unaffected.The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) said fire crews were “working diligently” to contain a fire “affecting a section of the grassland surrounding” the airport.“KAA assures the public that the fire is confined to non-operational grassland areas and has not impacted any critical infrastructure or operational zones of JKIA. All airport activities, including flight schedules, passenger processing, and cargo handling, remain fully operational and unaffected,” KAA said.The Kenya Red Cross said its emergency-response teams were helping to battle the blaze.This footage from a passing motorist shows the fire burning close to 75 Airport North Road, on the north side of the airport compound.
