A surfers’ lifeguard in Northern California received a surprise on January 6 when a young sea lion jumped onboard his Jet Ski.Footage captured by Drake Stanley shows the sea lion pup perched on the driver’s seat of his Jet Ski during a water rescue in Mavericks, a popular surf spot in the area. “Here’s my buddy,” Stanley says in the footage, as he gives the cute critter a pat.“I was doing rescue for the big-wave surfers,” Stanley told Storyful. “The sea lion pup was separated from its mom and most likely being chased by a great white shark,” he added.Eventually, marine rescue was called and the sea lion was handed over to make sure it was healthy and able to be rereleased into the wild.Before handing her over, Stanley named his new buddy Bubbles, according to his Instagram post.
