Smoke billowed into the sky after a
fire broke out at a power plant in Moss Landing, California, on Thursday, January 16, prompting
evacuation orders.The plant, which is owned by Vistra Energy, is
known as one of the largest battery plants in the world, and contains lithium batteries.
Officials in Monterey County asked citizens in farther-off areas to “stay indoors, keep windows and doors closed, limit outdoor exposure, and turn off ventilation systems.”The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office
issued evacuation orders for areas near the battery storage site on Thursday.The fire was still burning on Friday morning, but had decreased considerably in size, local outlet KSBW
