Biden Reaffirms Support for Israel, Confirms Americans Killed in Conflict

US President Joe Biden has said at least 14 US citizens were among those killed in the Hamas attack on Israel, as he condemned the attack as “an act of sheer evil" in a televised address on Tuesday, October 10.Biden confirmed that American citizens were among those being held hostage by Hamas. “This is terrorism,” Biden said, “But sadly for the Jewish people, it’s not new.” The president said the attack has brought to the surface painful memories left by “antisemitism and the genocide of the Jewish people.”Biden said he had told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that if the US had been attacked in a similar way “our response would be swift, decisive, and overwhelming.”Biden saying the US would provide ammunition and other assistance to make sure “Israel does not run out of these critical assets to defend its cities and its citizens.”Biden said US law enforcement agencies were taking steps to disrupt any domestic threat that may emerge as a result of the conflict.Over 900 people were killed in Hamas’s attack, according to the Israel Defense Forces.The death toll from airstrikes on Gaza rose to at least 830 on Tuesday, October 10, the Palestinian Ministry of Health reported.
