Timelapse satellite imagery depicts the moment Guatemala’s Volcan de Fuego started erupting on Sunday, March 9.The Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) released footage depicting the volcano erupting on X.“Guatemala’s Volcan de Fuego began erupting last night, sending a thick cloud of ash into the atmosphere,” CIRA wrote on X.Guatemala’s disaster management agency (CONRED) alerted the region and warned residents to have an emergency plan.Nearly 300 families have been evacuated by authorities and another 30,000 people in the area could be at risk, according to reports.The last time Volcan de Fuego erupted was June 2023.
