Three Dead After Collision of Firefighting Helicopters in California

Three people were killed when two helicopters collided during firefighting efforts near Cabazon, California, on Sunday evening, August 6, according to local media.The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to an “air emergency” on Sunday evening around 7:20 pm.The LA Times reported late on Sunday that three people on board a firefighting helicopter were killed when it collided with another helicopter in flight.The other aircraft was able to land safely, the report said, citing a Cal Fire official.The dead were described as a Cal Fire division chief, a Cal Fire captain, and the contract pilot of the helicopter.The cause of the crash was under investigation.Sergio Olmos said he recorded this video in Cabazon, where he said firefighters and police drove in procession to honor the dead.
