An injured black bear cub survived a 10-hour drive after being found in the middle of a highway in Cochrane, Ontario, over the Labor Day weekend, before being taken in by an animal service. The cub was found by two unidentified men who picked it up and placed it in their van, driving the long distance to Windsor while feeding the animal Taco Bell, CTV News reported. The bear was picked up by the Pet and Wildlife Rescue (PAWR). Its executive director, Myriam Armstrong, said the bear was frightened and listless when it arrived. The bear cub was transported on September 1 to a facility specializing in bear rehabilitation – Bear With Us.“It looked like he’d been hit by a vehicle, which the people who took him back to Windsor surmised,” Bear With Us founder and president Mike McIntosh told CTV News on September 6.McIntosh said the bear was believed to be nine months old and had sustained severe head trauma along with serious body bruises, but no broken bones.“He’s come right around. I wouldn’t say he’s better yet,” McIntosh said. “He still walks like he’s pretty sore, but he’s eating and drinking like a little bear should. I would say he’s probably 80 per cent recovered now.”Footage filmed by Myriam Armstrong shows the bear getting some liquids and food in the back of the van and at their center. Further footage showed the cub being placed in a vehicle heading to the Bear With Us facility. Credit: Pet and Wildlife Rescue/Pawr.org via Storyful
