Newly released footage shows the suspect in the attack in New Orleans on New Year’s Day, surveying city’s French Quarter months before the attack using Meta smart glasses, federal authorities said on Sunday, January 5.Videos released by the FBI show the planning behind the attack, including Shamsud-Din Jabbar’s placement of improvised explosive devices along Bourbon Street.In a press release, Special Agent Lyonel Myrthil said Jabbar made at least two trips to New Orleans in the months prior to the attacks: one in October and the other a month later in November.“From what we know now, Jabbar stayed at a rental home in New Orleans beginning October 30, 2024. He was in town at least two days. During that time Jabbar, using Meta glasses, recorded video as he rode through the French Quarter on a bicycle.”“This video shows Jabbar during that trip in October with his Meta glasses.”Other clips released by the FBI show Jabbar early on the morning of January 1, 2025, leaving the first IED inside a blue cooler at Bourbon Street and St Peters Street.It was found a block away at Orleans Street after multiple unknowing Bourbon Street visitors grabbed the cooler’s handle and moved it.A fourth clip taken at 2:20 am, Jabbar leaves the second IED inside a “bucket-style” cooler at Bourbon and Toulouse Streets.In the final clip, Jabbar is seen clearly on surveillance video walking down Governor Nicholls Street.
