Memorials, featuring flowers, candles, crosses and messages, have appeared in New Orleans to honor the victims of the New Year attack, in which a man drove a pickup truck through revelers on Bourbon Street, killing 14 people.
Local media reported that President Joe Biden and the First Lady visited the memorial and attended a prayer service held at St Louis Cathedral to pay their respects to the victims.
According to the FBI, 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a US citizen from Texas, drove a rented Ford pickup truck through a crowd of people at around 3:15 am on January 1. After plowing into the crowd, Jabbar exited the vehicle and fired on local law enforcement, who returned fire and fatally wounded him.The attack was being investigated as an “act of terrorism,” the FBI said.
