Hundreds of demonstrators gathered at Aleppo’s Saadallah Al-Jabiri Square on Monday, February 3, to denounce a “car bomb attack” that occurred near Manbij in northern Aleppo province, according to reports.Footage captured by Obada Jbara shows the crowd chanting and holding signs, including one that read, “Manbij is bleeding.”Jbara told Storyful that demonstrators were calling on the Syrian government to dismantle the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and urging global attention to the bombings. At least 20 people, mostly women, were killed and many were wounded when an explosion struck a vehicle outside Manbij, northern Aleppo province, on Monday, according to Syrian officials. It was the deadliest attack to occur in the country since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in December.Earlier, the Syria Civil Defense, also known as the White Helmets, reported that a booby-trapped Suzuki truck detonated as a truck transporting agricultural workers passed by, killing at least 14 women and one man, and wounding another 15 women and girls. The Syrian presidency described the bombings as a “terrorist” attack on the country’s civilian population, and said authorities would pursue the perpetrators and hold them accountable. The US-backed SDF condemned the bombing and, without citing evidence, blamed it on “mercenary factions” allied with Turkey. They added that they were ready to assist the Damascus government in investigating the attack. There were no immediate claims of responsibility for the attack, and no details on suspects were available at the time of publication.Several other deadly attacks occurred in Manbij in recent weeks, the White Helmets said.
