Evacuation orders were
issued for residents near a power plant in Moss Landing, California, after a large
fire broke out on Thursday, January 16.
Officials in Monterey County asked citizens in farther-off areas to “stay indoors, keep windows and doors closed, limit outdoor exposure, and turn off ventilation systems.”The
Monterey County Sheriff’s Office urged people to “avoid the area to allow for emergency vehicles to respond.”Local media
reported that firefighters were waiting for the fire to burn out on its own. The plant is operated by the company Vistra Energy and produces batteries. Credit: Alekz Londos via Storyful
