Northeast Tennessee residents picked their way through storm damage on Wednesday, October 2, days after Helene wreaked havoc on the region.Xira told Storyful she filmed this footage of broken tree limbs and mud-filled debri on Hale Rd in Newport, Tennessee, on Wednesday, after floodwaters had finally subsided enough to walk through the area.“River flooded highest I’ve ever seen it,” Xira wrote on X.Newport residents had been ordered to evacuate on the afternoon of September 27 as Cocke County Mayor Rob Mathis issued a state of emergency.As of October 3, at least 200 people had died as a result of Hurricane Helene, according to reports quoting state officials. Gov Bill Lee toured damaged areas of Cocke County on Thursday morning.“Folks in Cocke County are in a bad way, just about everywhere you look,” the Cocke County Emergency Management Agency wrote on Facebook.
