Myanmar teachers strike against military coup

Teachers from the Yangon University of Education gathered at a campus building and held papers marked "civil disobedience, Myanmar teachers," while chanting "may the military dictatorship fail." Many of the striking teachers brandished a three-finger salute, in reference to the popular "Hunger Games" series. In recent years the salute has been adopted by protesters against authoritarian rule in Asia."Our aim is to completely stop the whole system under the military coup. So, we will stop working with them from now on," said university lecturer Honey Lwin.Groups of teachers were among the latest to join a spreading civil disobedience campaign that started among medical workers after the coup and has brought in students, youth groups and some workers in both government and private sectors.
