A 12-foot-tall giraffe was chauffeured from Whipsnade to London Zoo on Tuesday, October 15, before embarking on a journey to France.Footage released by the Zoological Society of London shows 22-month-old Wilfred loading into a truck with an adjustable roof before driving 45 minutes to London Zoo.Wilfred’s journey was the first leg of a relocation to France where he has been matched with another herd for breeding.“Wilfred was born at Whipsnade Zoo in 2022 and now that he’s older it’s almost time for him to become the patriarch of his own herd,” giraffe keeper Gemma Metcalf said.“His future move to France is part of the careful collaborative planning of the European breeding programme for his species,” Metcalf added.The stopover in London also meant Wilfred was temporarily reunited with his half-sister Nuru.
