Bodycam Footage Shows Moment Deputy Rescues Baby From Burning Building

A quick-thinking deputy rescued a baby from a burning building in Winder, Georgia, on February 25, struggling to breathe as he did so.The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office said deputies, along with units from the Winder police and fire departments, responded to reports of a fire at a residential building on Apperson Drive at 1:13 pm.While on the way to the fire, deputies were informed “an infant child was still in the apartment and was unable to be reached.”The sheriff’s office said deputies immediately tried to rescue the infant, but “several units were not able to continue beyond a certain point in the building because of the heavy smoke from the fire.”A Barrow County Sheriff’s Office deputy, identified as Jhancarlos Arango, jumped into action. Arango’s bodycam footage shows him cover his face with a shirt as he crawls towards the infant, following its cries. In the video, Arango can be heard saying, “I can’t breathe”, and that he almost passed out.Footage shows Arango carry the baby to safety. Once outside, Arrango gasps for air and is heard expressing his relief, saying, “I almost passed out. I got the kid out. She’s out.
