A Danish member of the European Parliament directed profane language at US President Donald Trump on Tuesday, January 21, following Trump’s comments that he wanted the United States to take over Greenland.Anders Vistisen, a member of the right-wing Patriots for Europe political group at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, delivered the remarks during a debate discussing the impact of Trump’s presidency on US-European Union relations.“Dear President Trump, listen very carefully. Greenland has been part of the Danish kingdom for 800 years. It’s an integrated part of our country. It is not for sale. Let me put it in words you might understand, Mr. Trump: F*** off.” Vistisen then continued his address in Danish.Once Vistisen finished speaking, EP Vice President Nicolae Stefanuta, who was chairing the debate, rebuked the Danish politician for the profane remark.“If the translation was correct, the term you used is not allowed in this house and there will be consequences to the message you have used,” Stefanuta said. “It is not okay in this house of democracy.”Vistisen later posted video of his remarks on social media, writing: “Greenland has been part of Denmark for 800 years, more than double the time the US has existed. Any true patriot should understand that this is an unacceptable attack on national sovereignty!” Credit: European Parliament via Storyful
