A deer that was stranded on the frozen Potomac River in Washington, DC, was rescued by first responders and animal control officers on Thursday, January 16.The Brandywine Valley SPCA posted about the event on Facebook, calling it a “wild rescue!”“This morning, we received multiple calls about a deer stranded on the icy Potomac River near the Key Bridge,” the Brandywine Valley SPCA wrote.The deer was spotted around 8 am on Thursday, according to local news reports.The Brandywine Valley SPCA said it got help from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Harbor Patrol as well as the District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services’ Fireboat crew.In the video, officers take an airboat across the icy river toward the deer, which is slipping and flailing on the ice.“With cold temperatures and icy conditions making the rescue tricky, this dedicated team of heroes worked together to safely bring the deer to solid ground, where it got its footing and ran off,” the Brandywine Valley SPCA wrote on Facebook.“We’re happy to report the deer is now safe and back where it belongs,” the animal welfare group added. “A huge thank you to everyone involved for their compassion and courage!” Credit: Brandywine Valley SPCA via Storyful
