The crew of a Disney cruise ship assisted in the rescue of four sailors on a sinking catamaran off the coast of Bermuda on November 10, according to the US Coast Guard.
Reports said a distress call was received from a family aboard the pleasure vessel, which was taking on water in the open ocean more than 250 miles off the coast of Bermuda on Sunday morning.The Disney Treasure, a newly constructed 1000-foot cruise ship, diverted 80 miles from its first transatlantic voyage to assist in the rescue, according to a statement from Disney.Disney said the Treasure was sailing from Eemshaven, Netherlands, to its new home in Port Canaveral, Florida, and happened to be the closest ship to the catamaran when the distress signal was sent out.“We are pleased that the Disney Treasure was able to provide aid to the boat passengers in peril. Our crew members worked together on the rescue, skillfully demonstrating their training and commitment to safety,” said Captain Marco Nogara, Captain of the Disney Treasure.The cruise ship had yet to make its first official voyage with passengers on board.In footage released by the US Coast Guard via DVIDS, a small rescue boat deployed from the Treasure is seen intercepting the catamaran.The Treasure’s crew successfully brought the four sailors to safety onboard the cruise ship, according to an
