Starting in September, climbers hoping to summit the world's highest mountain will have to pay $15,000 during peak season, up from the longstanding fee of $11,000. The 36% increase is the first time Nepal has raised permit fees in nearly a decade. Revenue from Everest accounts for 4% of Nepal's economy. Expedition organizers say the increase is unlikely to deter climbers.
