Tropical Storm Sara Forms Off Honduras Coast

A tropical depression in the Caribbean Sea became Tropical Storm Sara off the coast of Honduras on Thursday, November 14, weather officials confirmed.As of 1 pm on Thursday, Sara was located approximately 205 miles east-southeast of Isla Guanaja and was carrying maximum sustained winds of 40 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).The system was expected to “meander near the northern coast of Honduras late Friday and through the weekend,” the NHC said. It was forecast to bring rainfall amounts of 10 to 20 inches, with isolated storm totals around 30 inches, to northern Honduras, leading to “life-threatening and potentially catastrophic flash flooding and mudslides,” particularly along and near the Sierra La Esperanza, per the NHC.
