The rapidly growing Hughes Fire spread towards residential areas in Castaic, California on Wednesday, January 22.It began as a vegetation fire in the morning on Wednesday around Lake Hughes Road near Castaic Lake, according to Angeles National Forest.By 1pm it had spread to more than 5,000 acres, according to Cal Fire. This video by Benjamin Shane shows flames in the distance towards Castaic Lake with dark smoke clouds obscuring the sky.Shane told Storyful that he and his wife were preparing to evacuate from 11 am on Wednesday. “Everything we own is in the house, so anxiety levels are very high,” he said.“It has been incredibly hectic, packing all our valuables into bags and loading up the car. We have two birds and a large dog, so evacuation is a huge concern for us.“I spoke with the fire captain on our street and he informed us to be prepared to leave at a moments notice, shortly thereafter we received the evacuation notification.” Credit: Benjamin Shane via Storyful
