Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw has praised a multi-agency effort leading to the seizure of what he called the biggest cocaine haul in the history of the service.Demkiw said on January 21 that 835 kilos of the drug was seized. He said it was alleged to have “the hallmarks of coming from the Jalisco New Generation cartel.”The Armed Conflict Location and Event Data organization describes the Jalisco New Generation cartel as “one of the most powerful actors in Mexico’s criminal underworld.”Supt Paul MacIntyre said that following the operation “the street price of cocaine in Canada has increased by 20 percent, signaling a direct impact on the distribution networks.”The Toronto Police Service said six individuals were arrested, of which two were Mexican nationals and four Canadians.
