A wildfire broke out and threatened homes in Rancho Bernardo, a community in northern San Diego, California, on Wednesday morning, January 22, before its forward progress was halted with help from firefighting aircraft, fire officials said.“A fast, concentrated response supported by air units helped firefighters quickly contain the Center Fire in Rancho Bernardo today,” San Diego Fire-Rescue said. “Homes were threatened and there were initial evacuation orders, but support from nearby and partner agencies ensured no structures were damaged. The fire burned seven acres and crews will be in the area through the afternoon and evening to put out any hot spots. 175 firefighters were involved.”This footage from local resident Aragorn Lesicka shows thick smoke and flames rising from the hills, and helicopters heading toward the fire on Wednesday. Lesicka told Storyful they had to evacuate from the area.A red flag warning was in effect for the San Diego valleys and mountains through 8pm local Thursday, with the National Weather Service warning of an “uptick in Santa Ana winds” combined with “critically dry vegetation” and very low humidity.
