The first snow of the season fell on Thursday, October 17, at the UC Berkeley Central Sierra Snow Laboratory (CSSL) in the Sierra Nevada mountains of Northern California, CSSL said.This slow-motion video shows the research station getting a light dusting.“We barely got to the threshold but yesterday was the first official snowfall of the 2025 water year (2024/2025 winter season) at the lab with 0.2” (0.5 cm)!” CSSL said.Researchers at the station, which is located near Donner Summit, study “snow physics, snow hydrology, meteorology, and climatology,” the lab says.
