Oprah Winfrey delivered a commencement speech to more than 600 undergraduate students from her alma mater, Tennessee State University, on Saturday, May 6.Winfrey, who received her degree from Tennessee State University in 1988, emphasized to students the importance of trusting their own intuition.“I know not what the future holds, but I know who holds the future,” Winfrey told the crowd.“You’ll begin to know your own heart and figure out what matters most when you can listen to the still, small voice," Winfrey said. "Every right move I made has come from listening deeply and following that still, small voice.”Winfrey also compared Tennessee State Representatives Justin Jones and Justin Pearson to 1960s civil-rights leaders in her speech, saying the lawmakers are “building on the legacy of giants.”Jones and Pearson were expelled from the Tennessee House of Representatives after leading a gun-reform protest from the chamber floor, and have since been reinstated.
