At least 27 people were killed in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, after a storm led to flooding in the state’s rivers, local government officials
confirmed on Wednesday, September 6.The storm brought heavy rain to the southern state on Tuesday, with some areas registering more than 4 inches of rain over a 24-hour period, the National Institute of Meteorology
said. In Santa Catarina, which borders Rio Grande do Sul to the north, wind gusts of over 70 miles per hour were reported,
according to the institute.Over 3,000 people had been displaced as a result of the flooding, the Rio Grande do Sul government
said. Two bridges had collapsed and multiple roadways were still blocked in the region,
