Syrians gathered in the iconic Umayyad Square in Damascus to protest against the presence of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in eastern Syria on Friday, January 31.Footage filmed by Obada Jbara shows people waving Syrian flags and holding banners reading “SDF forces civilians to go to the frontlines and uses them as human shields,” “The Eastern Province is bleeding in silence,” and “SDF is worse than Assad.”Jbara told Storyful that people were “protesting against the PKK and the Syrian Democratic Forces to get out of their areas because of the injustice that has happened because of them.”Ahmed al-Sharaa, who was declared interim President of Syria on Wednesday, said that he wants to negotiate with the Kurdish-led SDF, the only armed group that has not yet surrendered weapons to the new Syrian defense ministry, Middle East Eye said.
