Wildfire Burns Across US-Canada Border as Containment Efforts Continue

Fire crews from the United States and Canada worked to contain a wildfire burning on the border between Washington state and southern British Columbia on Tuesday, August 1, officials said.The fire started on Saturday in Oroville, Washington, local media reported, but spread to Osoyoos, British Columbia.On Tuesday afternoon, Canadian authorities lifted some evacuation orders in the town of Osoyoos, but kept some in place.The Eagle Bluff fire, previously named the Lone Pine Creek wildfire, burned 15,349 acres as of Tuesday morning, according to Washington’s Okanogan County Emergency Management.The BC Wildfire Service said weather conditions, including high temperatures and low humidity, “led to increased activity and growth,” and that the conditions would continue throughout the week.Footage filmed by Justin Williams shows the fire in Osoyoos late on July 29.Elsewhere in the province, fast-moving wildfires destroyed structures and forced evacuations, local media reported on Wednesday morning.
