Man-Made Smuggling Tunnel Discovered on US-Mexico Border

U.S. Border Patrol agents and Mexican authorities discovered a man-made cross-border tunnel in Ciudad Juarez connecting Mexico with the United States, and allowed media to visit the site on Saturday, January 18.Footage filmed by Corrie Boudreaux takes a journey through the entrance to the tunnel and gives a first-person look through the cramped passage.Boudreaux told Storyful that “inside the tunnel, it shows the sophisticated construction which includes braced walls, a wooden ceiling, electric lights, and a ventilation tube.”The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency said that the tunnel was discovered on January 9, and that it is “about six feet tall and four feet wide.”Mexican authorities told local media that the tunnel was used for “migrant trafficking” and that it was hidden in the city’s sewage system.Work was underway to close off the tunnel, authorities said.
