At least three people were killed and thousands were left without drinking water and power as Cyclone Garance made landfall on Reunion Island, a French department in the Indian Ocean, on Friday, February 28, France TV Info reported.The cyclone brought destructive wind gusts of up to 234 km/h (145 mph), large swells, and significant rain, according to the French weather service.As much as 517 mm (over 20 inches) of rainfall fell in the area of Commercon, including 186 mm (7.3 inches) in one hour, the weather service said.France TV Info reported that 182,000 customers were without electricity, with more than 171,000 homes lacking access to drinking water.The eye of the cyclone was expected to cross the island on Friday and wind gusts would remain into Saturday.Footage posted by X user @irfan_ali_yus showed worsening conditions and intense wind gusts in Sainte-Marie, located on the north of the island near the capital Saint-Denis.
