A couple of Australian divers who had “always wanted to see a white” got more than they bargained for recently, when a great white shark came scarily close to them as they were spearfishing on the Sapphire Coast. The epic encounter was recorded by William Brunker’s GoPro camera, as he and his dive partner CC were out in the water. In the video, Brunker narrates how the events unfolded and describes the moment “a four-meter-plus, female, great white shark materialized out of nowhere”.Brunker says that he wanted to see how the shark would respond to his presence in the water, and that it wasn’t long before he got his answer.“She wasn’t shy” he says, “she spun back around and went full staunch mode, to let me know who was calling the shots […] so my priority now was to keep CC safe”.Brunker says that the great white came twice more and “circled back in for another look at us”, saying that at this point, he was becoming “mildly alarmed.”“I knew we had to stay calm and not make any sudden movements, but I also knew that we really needed to get out of the water”, he says. The video then shows Brunker and CC making it safely to the rocks, before they had to get back into the water to make it back to the boat.Although Brunker described the following minutes as being “a very long two-minute swim”, he said the whole experience had been “epic” and “amazing”.
