At least 53 people have been killed and more than 60 injured after a powerful earthquake hit a remote region of Tibet on Tuesday morning. The 7.1-magnitude quake struck nearly 50 miles north of Mount Everest on the border with Nepal at a shallow depth of about 6 miles. The quake and some 50 aftershocks have caused widespread panic and damage to thousands of buildings.
