El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele said on February 3 that his country would be willing to accept convicted criminals from the United States “into our mega prison in exchange for a fee”, something Elon Musk said was a “Great idea!!”Such an arrangement, Bukele said, would be financially beneficial for both nations, making El Salvador’s prison system sustainable while offering the US a cost-effective solution to managing its prison population. The statement came as Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Bukele in San Salvador. The Department of State said “multiple agreements were struck” during the meeting to “fight the waves of illegal mass migration currently destabilizing the entire region.”Bukele agreed to take back “all Salvadoran MS-13 gang members” who are in the US illegally, the department said. Bukele also offered to accept “criminal illegal migrants from any country”.“The president in an act of extraordinary friendship to our country, knowing the challenges we face in the US, has agreed to the most unprecedented and extraordinary migratory agreement anywhere in the world,” Rubio said.Bukele also offered to jail “dangerous criminals currently in custody and serving their sentences in the United States even though they’re US citizens or legal residents,” Rubio said.
