Large plumes of black smoke filled the sky in St Marys, western Sydney, on February 4 after a fire broke out at a recycling plant, prompting evacuations within an 800-metre radius, officials said.More than 100 firefighters and 20 trucks were sent to control the blaze, which began around 2:40 pm and was contained by 5:50 pm.Exploding gas cylinders made firefighting efforts more challenging, and crews were expected to continue working overnight. The “Stay in Place” advice was reduced to a 400-metre radius, but residents were urged to keep windows and doors closed.
