At least 22 people were injured, 12 of them seriously, after a fire tore through a key costume factory for Rio de Janeiro’s Carnival, news outlet O Globo reported.Footage released by Rio’s city government Operations Center shows flames engulfing the Maximus Confeccoes factory in the Ramos neighborhood.Additional footage by news outlet G1 showed firefighters trying to help people at the building’s windows during the blaze.The RJ League of samba schools expressed deep concern over the incident and announced an emergency meeting to assess the impact.According to local media, the factory “produces a large part of the costumes for samba schools” participating in the city’s world-renowned Mardi Gras celebration, scheduled to take place February 28 to March 8.
