As part of broader efforts to beef up border security, US Marines were placing concertina wire along a US-Mexico border fence in San Ysidro, California, in early February 2025.Timelapse footage filmed by Lance Cpl Diego Berumen of the US Marine Corps shows the Marines putting up barbed wire along the southern border wall.The Marines said they were working together with the Department of Homeland Security on putting up physical barriers to add more security that will decrease illegal border crossings.The measures are part of US President Donald Trump’s plans to tackle immigration. On his third day in office, Trump signed an executive order to “immediately repel, repatriate, and remove” migrants.According to ProPublica, Trump intends to make the border a military priority and has indicated he wants additional border barriers to be built.
