Sailboat Sunk to Become Artificial Reef Off Georgia Coast
Georgia officials said they sank a 50-foot sailboat off the coast of Cumberland Island on Friday, February 16, as part of a scheme to create artificial reefs.The operation was carried out by the Coastal Resources Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR), who said the steel-hull vessel, “Guanahani Honey,” was donated by St. Marys Boat Services.The sailboat was cleaned of contaminants and potential entanglement areas before it was brought to the location 16 miles off Cumberland Island.
