Taiwan's iconic Elephant Trunk Rock collapses due to erosion

The natural rock formation Elephant Trunk Rock on Taiwan's northern coast collapsed into the sea on December 16. According to authorities, a crack developed in the trunk portion of the landform, which then broke off into the sea. The popular tourist destination had long been at risk to erosion from the elements and its thin arch made it even more precarious.
