正當紫金球迷還在歡慶準備迎接黃蜂23歲潛力中鋒中鋒威廉斯（Mark Williams）之際，沒想到湖人球團今天卻宣佈，因為沒能滿足交易條件，雙方交易直接取消，球員將各自回到原本球隊。
The Lakers say that the trade between the Charlotte Hornets and the Lakers has been rescinded due to failure to satisfy a condition of the trade.

根據《ESPN》知名記者查拉尼亞（Shams Charania）的報導，此筆交易取消的原因很可能就是威廉斯的體檢未過。他透露，威廉斯在體驗中出現多項問題，導致未能通過，但並非是因為背部問題。湖人方面也對於他未來能否持續擔任先發中鋒有所疑慮。

湖人在季中交易收下唐西奇（Luka Doncic）可說是震撼全聯盟，之後為了填補戴維斯（Anthony Davis）離開的禁區空缺，湖人又成功與黃蜂達成協議，送走新秀肯奈特（Dalton Knecht）、瑞迪許（Cam Reddish）、一個2031年無保護首輪選秀權和2030年選秀交換權，得到威廉斯。
威廉斯在2022年只打了43場比賽，2023年打了19場，本季到目前為止則是打了23場，三年一共只打了85場比賽，其健康問題一直是外界疑慮。當初決定交易後，湖人方面認定對於他的健康狀態沒有太多疑慮，如今看來還是成了阻礙。
這突如其來的消息讓湖人再度面臨內線人手短缺的問題，後續只能從買斷市場尋求適合人選。
