Timelapse satellite imagery captured over a 34-hour period up to Friday afternoon, December 13, shows Tropical Cyclone Chido churning north of Madagascar and west toward Mozambique, where it was expected to make landfall on Sunday.The Joint Typhoon Warning Center said the storm was packing maximum sustained wind speeds of around 121 mph, making it the equivalent of a Category 3 hurricane.In a press release, UNICEF said it was “seriously concerned” about Chido, which was expected to make landfall in the Pemba area of Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado province on Sunday afternoon, due to the “high level of vulnerability of the population of Cabo Delgado, where rates of poverty are very high and access to basic services, including clean water and sanitation, are low.”Authorities estimate that up to 1.7 million people could be affected by the storm, UNICEF said.
