British morning radio DJ Jordan North was rescued by a lifeboat crew on Monday, December 16, after he stepped into London’s Thames river to save a dog from drowning and then found himself struggling in the water himself.Speaking on his
Capital FM show, North said he had been out for a run near Hammersmith Bridge when he saw a woman in distress and people “looking over the edge” into the water. North approached the scene and saw a Labrador retriever “basically drowning,” so he climbed over a large gate and out over the water on a narrow pontoon to try to get closer to the dog, he said.Though the dog was struggling against strong currents, North managed to grab a hold of its collar while holding onto the pontoon himself. However, North said he then began to feel his legs “going dead,” so he asked onlookers to “call the coast guard.”A few minutes later, a Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) crew arrived from a local station in Chiswick and helped both the dog and North back to dry land.In a press release, the RNLI said the crew “found former I’m a Celebrity contestant Jordan on a nearby float lift with the dog, as members of the public held up phone torches to help the RNLI locate him.”North thanked the crew who rescued him as he had been “getting a bit panicky” and was afraid he couldn’t hold on much longer. “The real heroes here are the RNLI, who came out and got me, put a blanket round me. They’re the heroes,” North said. Credit: RNLI via Storyful
