US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth released his first video address on January 30, providing more details on the aircraft collision that took place in Washington the night before, which
was defined as a “tragic mishap” by the Department of Defense. In the video address, Hegseth first provided an update on the operation at Guantanamo Bay, saying that the Defense Department was “supporting the President’s directive to make sure that we have relocation for violent criminal illegals as they are deported out of the country.”He then changed topic completely to talk about the collision between a passenger plane and a military aircraft near Reagan National Airport that took place the previous evening.Hegseth said that the military aircraft was completing “an annual proficiency training flight.”“It was a fairly experienced crew that was doing a required annual night evaluation,” he said.Hegseth added that a senior aviation team had been deployed after the collision and was investigating “what’s going on.”“We anticipate that the investigation will quickly be able to determine whether the aircraft was in the quarter and at the right altitude at the time of the incident,” he said.Earlier on Thursday officials
said that they did not believe that there were any survivors in the collision. Credit: Department of Defense via Storyful
