Satellite imagery captured the moon’s shadow moving across the Pacific Ocean during an annular solar eclipse on October 2.An annular eclipse happens when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, while the moon is at its furthest point our planet. This leaves an outer ring of the sun visible behind the moon. The phenomenon is dubbed the “ring of fire” and could be seen by people in Argentina and Chile. Others in South America could see a partial eclipse. Credit: CIRA via Storyful
