A spacecraft called “Blue Ghost” completed its third and final lunar orbit on Monday, February 24, bringing the lander one step closer to its destination on Mare Crisium, a crater on the moon.Blue Ghost, developed by private company Firefly Aerospace, is set to land on Mare Crisium on Sunday, March 2.According to Firefly Aerospace, Blue Ghost will deliver 10 science and technology instruments to the lunar surface as part of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) initiative, capture imagery of a total lunar eclipse, and provide data on lunar sunsets.Footage released by Firefly Aerospace shows Blue Ghost completing its second lunar orbit on February 18, with Earth visible in the distance.
