A festive spirit permeated Piazza Navona in Rome, on Monday, January 6, as firefighters helped lower a “Befana”, or old witch, down from a building so she could join the celebrations for an Italian national holiday and bring sweets to kids.In Italian folkore, the Befana is an old witch who arrives before January 6 to deliver gifts to children on her broom.Footage released by Vigili del Fuoco shows a person wearing a Befana mask being lowered down onto Piazza Navona with the firefighters’ ladder, much to the joy of children present.
