Coastal flooding began to submerge roads in the city of Oldsmar, west of Tampa in Pinellas County, Florida, as Hurricane Helene neared landfall in Florida’s Big Bend Region on Thursday afternoon, September 26.The National Hurricane Center said Oldsmar could see 5-8 feet of storm surge which is “enough to carry away a car and kill you,” city officials warned.This footage shows flooding at the corner of Bedford Street and Shore Drive, just a few feet from Old Tampa Bay’s Safety Harbor.The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office urged anyone in at-risk coastal areas to evacuate immediately. “The storm’s peak impact isn’t here yet, but we are already seeing concerning conditions,” the agency said.
