An injured Italian caver who had been trapped underground since Saturday after a fall in a cave network near Bergamo was finally rescued and airlifted to safety in the early hours of Wednesday, December 18.According to the Italian alpine rescue service, their team exited the cave system with the stretcher carrying the speleologist Ottavia Piana at around 3 am.Piana was airlifted by helicopter, and transferred to a hospital in nearby Bergamo.The rescue operation took 75 hours in total, the rescue service said.Piana fell from a height of five meters and was left with several broken bones, according to Italian news agency ANSA.
