Dramatic footage shows the moment three people scrambled to avoid being hit by a stolen car as it came speeding towards them before crashing into a tram stop on February 1.According to police, an officer spotted the stolen 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee parked on the road and requested cover units. Before additional officers could arrive, the driver of the stolen car “pulled away onto the street.”“The officer was initiating a traffic stop, but the suspect driver preemptively eluded the officer, accelerating above the speed limit,” police said.Police officers “turned off their overhead emergency police lights to avoid pushing him to continue his dangerous driving, but then he lost control and crashed into a streetcar.”The 29-year-old driver, Edgar Castro, was charged with five counts of reckless driving, three counts of recklessly endangering another person, driving under the influence of alcohol, and possession of a stolen vehicle, among other charges.
