A crowd gathered outside the DC Central Detention Facility on Monday, January 20, awaiting the release of individuals President Donald Trump pardoned for their roles in the January 6 Capitol riot.Earlier that day, Trump signed an executive order pardoning many of the 1,500 people charged in connection with the attack on the US Capitol in 2021.Footage captured by Tara Szczepanski shows supporters expressing their support for those charged over the riot.Among them is Ronald “Ronnie” Sandlin, who said he was sentenced to 63 months in prison for his involvement, and was released three months ago after spending 45 months behind bars.“This is such a joyous moment, but it’s also bittersweet because I have brothers in there who have done years of their lives in there,” Sandlin is heard saying in the footage. “We can never treat American citizens like this again.”Another supporter, Helena Gibson, said she was “overjoyed” and “cried” after Trump pardoned who she said were “political hostages.” Credit: Tara Szczepanski via Storyful
